    Summary

    The incumbent serves as a Medical Support Assistant (MSA) which functions as administrative support for the Prosthetics Department at the Hot Springs VA Medical Center and the Fort Meade VA Medical Center of the VA Black Hills Health Care System. This is the full performance level for MSAs. At this level, the MSA performs a full range of duties. The MSA is responsible for scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines. MSAs staff the patient check-in/check-out desks and is responsible for issuing prosthetics items to Veterans that present to the front desk. This also includes posting the items to Veterans record for appropriate tracking purposes. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults; entering no-show information; preparing for clinic visits; monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; verifying and updating demographics and insurance information; performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage (i.e., TRICARE, sharing agreements, etc.).

    The MSA position is a foundational role within Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service. This role is vital in scheduling and coordinating appointments with Veterans. Incumbent must coordinate the receiving of Veterans Orthotics and Prosthetics items with timely appointment scheduling with the goal of the Veteran being provided their prosthetics item in conjunction to their appointment within 30 days of the initial provider consult.

    Work Schedule: Full Time; Monday - Friday, 0730-1600

    Responsibilities

    Physical Requirements: This position is mostly office work and sedentary. Incumbent may be required to lift medical records up to 30 pounds and some periods of standing, walking and bending will be required. Use of government vehicle may be required. A current valid state driver's license may be required.
