As an Archives Specialist, GS-1421-09 FPL 12, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
1. Incumbent serves, in a developmental capacity, as an Archives Specialist expanding education and experience to ultimately leverage a wide range of business process experience and technical knowledge which will allow the employee to advise and direct technical support of existing visitor management, reference request tracking, and automated archival processing and preservation systems.
2. Incumbent will work with higher graded Specialists while developing skills to carry out a variety of actions required to transfer legal and physical custody of electronic federal agency, court records, and collections to NARA. Incumbent will learn to utilize ERA and associated processing, verification, and archival description systems to accomplish accessioning. As the incumbent progresses, the amount of supervision will gradually be reduced.
3. The employee will enhance ability to assess records schedules and analyze technical characteristics of records to ensure that records are correctly scheduled and eligible for transfer. This will be done under guidance until such time as the incumbent has developed necessary skills and knowledge to work under less restrictive conditions.
4. Will assist in accessioning, using ERA and associated processing, verification, and archival description systems, as instructed. Prepares documentation and communications for rejecting proposed transfers of records. Coordinates with internal accessioning staff and higher graded specialists, as needed, to facilitate the transfer of permanent electronic records, or to resolve disposition issues or other problems regarding the transfer of records to NARA. Incumbent will partner with supervisor or higher graded specialist to participate in the interaction with business stakeholders to confirm that business needs are met in the use of systems for electronic record accessioning and preservation, visitor management and reference request tracking. Incumbent will gain archival and related business process experience to assist with the design and provide user feedback on future systems.
5. The employee will assist in feasibility studies for design of new and/or revised systems relevant to the areas of electronic record accessioning and preservation.
