Duties

Help
  • You will serve as an action officer in the Media Relations Division, Office of the Chief of Public Affairs.
  • Responsible for developing and disseminating public affairs guidance and plans.
  • Respond to national and international media queries, and providing guidance to Army leaders and personnel on a broad spectrum of Public Affairs programs and Army missions and activities with high public visibility and interest.
  • Coordinate and facilitate media engagements.
  • Develop media plans, media strategies and media events for assigned accounts in support of overall Army objectives.
  • Research proposed responses to national and international news queries for assigned accounts in support of overall Army objectives.
  • Furnish advice to Army staff proponents on the content, timing, appropriate audience, print and electronic media outlets, suitability and appropriate release timing and level for public release concerning assigned accounts.
  • Maintain constant awareness of the status of Army activities that have potential public affairs impacts.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing oral presentations to defend public affairs; assisting in responding to national and international media queries; providing advice to staff proponents on the content, timing, appropriate audience, print and electronic media outlets, suitability and appropriate release timing for public release concerning assigned accounts; and preparing proposed answers to assist civilian news media with questions on responses to national and international news queries for assigned accounts in support of Agency objectives.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
