This position is located in the Division of Horticulture, under the Office of the Administrator. The Division of Horticulture is responsible for the maintenance of 10acres of exterior landscape around the East and West building of the National Gallery of Art including a 6 acre Sculpture Garden. In addition, the Division of Horticulture is responsible for 4 interior gardens, 9 greenhouses, 4 cold frames, and 3 specialty gardens. The division also assumes the responsibility for supplying all floral and foliage requirements for over 300 special events per year. The division is responsible for the contract services for exterior step washing, sidewalk cleaning, daily exterior trash removal and snow removal.
The incumbent is a Horticulturist whose primary responsibility is to manage the Sculpture Garden landscape and general maintenance of the East and West Building grounds for the National Gallery of Art. As a supervisor in the Division of Horticulture, the incumbent assumes responsibility for the utilization of personnel and materials for the horticulture programs associated with the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden and grounds of the East and West buildings including the implementation of all contracts (current contracts include tree pruning, weeding, trash/snow removal and tree pesticide treatments) for Horticulture Services in the Garden.
