Duties

Help
  • You will serve as a Public Affairs Specialist in the Fort Carson Garrison Public Affairs Office planning, organizing and directing public information, command information and community relations activities.
  • You will provide information to the news media, the general public and internal audiences on all aspects of command training, projects and programs and contingency operations.
  • You will assist senior public affairs specialists in public information, command information and community relations by evaluating effectiveness of programs and suggesting necessary action to improve them.
  • You will establish and maintain effective working relationships with Department of Army agencies and with representatives of local and national organizations, community groups, private citizens, as well as local congressional staffers.

  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • This position requires a valid state driver's license in order to obtain a government transportation motorpool (TMP) license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be available for "on-call" situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience is defined as: experience writing press releases and professional publication articles on organization activities; assisting with publicity efforts to obtain news media coverage for events; scheduling advertisements in local media; and planning and coordinating promotional activities.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the descriptions below:

Master's or equivalent degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

Completion of all requirements for an LL.B or J.D. degree from an accredited college or university

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
