Join a motivated, growing, and diverse team engaged in challenging and dynamic work at a new garrison dedicated to direct support of the Reagan Test Site's three critical strategic mission areas: missile testing, operational space surveillance, and technology development for future systems and sensors. United States Army Garrison Kwajalein Atoll is a small community, proud of its historic significance that though remote, provides most services found on Army garrisons. Services include a small, non-DODEA K-12 school system, a CYSS, and medical facility (no specialty care, pre-employment physical exam required). Family member screening and evaluation due to limited exceptional family member resources. Located 2400 miles southwest of Hawaii in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, surrounding one of the world's largest tropical lagoons, you can enjoy access to activities such as world-class diving, snorkeling, fishing, golfing, boating, and organized sports, as well as, beautiful beaches, a year-round tropical climate, and a short walk or bike-to-work (no POVs). One to three bedroom housing, with utilities, provided.

Duties

Help
  • Serve as the Public Affairs Officer at a small or medium size multi-mission military installation with responsibilities to the Deputy to the Garrison Commander.
  • Planning, coordinating and directing public affairs support for all organizations on the installation to include community relations media operations and facilitations information strategies.
  • Liaison between tenant organizations, garrison and the public; legislative liaison, government relations and the garrison newspaper.
  • Identifies and analyzes communication needs, concerns and attitude of various publics as they relate to programs, policies and activities of the community.
  • Conducts appropriate research and participates in the formulation of plans and policies to assure direct consideration of public information and public relations implications of planned actions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in planning and/or directing public affairs operations, writing news releases/ statements, writing web and social media content, and coordinating with media outlets, in a community setting to include community relations, media operations, events, and /or facilitation.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with
  • the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • If an employee brings a family member to an overseas location who requires medical or dental care, then the employee will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
  • Pay retention may be offered to successful applicants for positions at overseas locations. For this provision to apply to employees already overseas, the selected individual would have to require a permanent change of station move and would have to be selected as a result of a recruitment effort that had been extended outside of the overseas command involved.
  • Selectees initially recruited from the United States may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. (Subject to approval)
