Performs as a Librarian in the Cataloging and Metadata Services Branch of the U.S. Army War College Library, U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center. Performs original and modified descriptive cataloging and classification of contemporary and historical military sources in all formats.

Duties

Help
  • Perform original and modified descriptive cataloging and classification of a variety of library materials in a variety of languages and formats
  • Catalogs materials in specialized formats, to include serials, digitized content, and archival collections.
  • Applies standard cataloging rules and practices.
  • Create authority records according to established rules and principles.
  • Assists with archival cataloging of unique manuscript, photograph, and audio-visual collections according to Society of American Archivists-approved standards.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Basic Requirements along with Specialized/Education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: To Qualify applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-07). Specialized experience is defined as: knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of librarianship; or knowledge of specialized information sources including the structure, content, and access protocols of relevant databases to respond to reference and research queries.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.

Time in Grade Restriction: Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).

Education

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D., related to the position
