As a Supervisory Computer Scientist (Director, Office of Data Science), you will:
Provide leadership and direction and sets goals for the implementation of modern data science practices and activities;
Evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of data science initiatives;
Develop guidance for the organization and use of a data commons;
Evaluate, oversee, and balance resource allocation for ODS projects;
Survey literature and maintain liaisons with other international and government agencies, private industries, and non-government research organizations to identify information related to emerging trends in big data;
Facilitate the convention of scientific meetings or workshop of experts to advance the science of big data;
Supervise and promote the professional development of ODS staff.

Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
You must have completed a full-four year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Government, obtained in either the private or public sector. Examples of qualifying experience include: leading, planning and conducting research in the development of new technologies in data management in support of a scientific organization to facilitate the exchange of information; establishing timelines, priorities and work plans for the completion of data management products; providing scientific input on the creation and maintenance of data commons; and organizing meetings or workshops with scientists and experts of diverse backgrounds concerning the advancement of data science.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
