Duties

Help
  • Plan, direct, and execute the complete range of audit life cycle activities
  • Perform on a team as the auditor-in-charge or as a working auditor, research and develop potential audits for annual audit plan; develop audit programs and schedules
  • Coordinate work with Agency management to plan, execute, and report the results of audits
  • Conduct follow-up reviews to ensure recommendations are implemented as intended
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to management and program officials in audit areas of broad scope and mission impact
  • Review the audit documentation of team members and external auditors and ensure they are complete and in compliance with GAGAS

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Completion of all requirements for a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.

OR

Candidates may also qualify through a combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing courses, which may include up to 6 hours of business law, OR a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.

Specialized experience:

For the GS-13, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-12 if outside the Federal service, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as experience conducting financial or performance audits which include the complete range of audit life activities (survey planning through follow-up audit work).

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements, qualified applicants must also possess the quality of experience as it relates to how closely or to what extent an applicant's background, recency of experience, education, and training are relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the announced position. Candidates must clearly demonstrate the possession of knowledge, skills and abilities, or competencies necessary to successfully perform the work of the position at the appropriate level to be qualified for the position. Applicants must describe how their experience meets the competencies within the body of the resume. No separate statements addressing KSA's or competencies are required.
