Summary

Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA Medical Center serves more than 105,000 Veterans in Central Florida and includes a 120-bed Community Living Center, two Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs/Domiciliaries (60-beds located at the Lake Nona Campus and 58-beds at the Lake Baldwin Campus), three large multi-specialty Satellite Outpatient Clinics in Orlando (Lake Baldwin campus), Viera and Daytona Beach, and four Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Orange City, and Tavares. The new medical center at Lake Nona is open for outpatient and inpatient services and will continue to expand inpatient beds, Emergency Services, and other specialty services throughout 2017. As VA's newest state-of-the-art health care facility, Orlando's 65-acre medical campus encompasses 134 acute inpatient beds, providing complex Medical/Surgical/Mental Health specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, and a large multi-specialty outpatient clinic.

Orlando VA is seeking a full-time Podiatrist(Podiatry/Foot & Ankle) surgeon, located at our Viera Outpatient Clinic, to join a large and expanding Surgery department. The practice involves all aspects of Podiatry/Foot & Ankle Surgery(including fore foot, rear foot and ankle surgery, both elective and emergency). Candidates must have strong academic aspirations with focus on clinical and /or basic research and teaching.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a citizen or National of the United States.
Must possess a degree of doctor of podiatric or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United Schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted.
Must possess current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Must meet the physical and suitability standards both prior to and during employment in the position.

After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position

Qualifications

Grade Determinations: Meets the requirements for Intermediate grade and the requirements in paragraphs (1) and (2) below:
(1) The podiatrist at this level:
(a) Possesses such academic stature as would warrant a faculty appointment of a professional level in a school or college of podiatry or other appropriate affiliated school or college, or
(b) In a recognized specialty, should be certified by a specialty board approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association.
(2) Has demonstrated recognized superior professional attainment as evidenced by one or more of the following examples:
(a) Has served as a team leader in attacking major podiatric problems affecting the continued provision of quality care health services at a VISN, statewide, or national level. There is such confidence in the podiatrist at this level that there is unusual support of the individual's recommendations and conclusions.
(b) Has had responsibility for carrying out a major podiatric program segment on a national level.
(c) Has served on a regular basis as a consultant to a national center to which the most difficult types of orthopedic and prosthetic cases are referred from facilities throughout the country.
(d) Has conducted research in a difficult area of major scientific interest which has contributed to a substantial advance in the health field with important professional publications.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking (1 hour), standing (1 hour), near vision correctable to 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20, hearing (aid permitted), emotional/mental stability, working inside and outside, working closely with others, working alone, working with hands in water, protracted or irregular hours of work, slippery or uneven walking surfaces.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of 26 days per leave year (1 day per pay period).
