This Secretarial Internship Program is sponsored by the Department of Transportation and designed to provide interns with challenging assignments that will broaden their perspectives on issues facing government and prepare them for future positions throughout government. Interns will have the opportunity to work in one of the Operating Administrations within the Department of Transportation and meet with senior leaders within the Department through informal interviews, workshops, and learning sessions. These intern positions will assist higher-level management staff with support in the coordination, facilitation and implementation of the operations in the office to which they are assigned. This position will provide students an opportunity to be exposed and to participate in activities, innovations, and challenges facing the Transportation Industry today.
The Department of Transportation is looking for independent, energetic, self-sufficient, and highly motivated students who are excited to learn about Department of Transportation Programs. These positions are located in the DOT HQ building, which is directly across the street from the Metro and blocks away from the National's Baseball stadium, or in the Federal Aviation Administration headquarters building, also conveniently located to Metro.
You will be required to provide documentation to support eligibility.
Students must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment for the 2018 academic year taking at least a half-time course load. Students may be employed throughout the academic year. The Student Trainee (Program Support) will:
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
If selected, you will be required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement. Interns may work full-time during the summer and a flexible part-time work schedule during the school year (based on agency needs) while continuing their education.
You will be in a trial period throughout your entire Pathways Internship appointment. If selected by management, you are required to complete a Declaration for Federal Employment (OF-306) to determine your suitability for federal employment and to authorize a background investigation.
This is an Excepted Service appointment. As a part of the Pathways Internship Program, the appointment may be extended until the selectee's educational program requirements have been completed. You may be converted, without a break in service to a term (time-limited) or permanent appointment upon graduation provided that you are a US citizen who has worked at least 640 hours in an appropriate program and receive the recommendation of your supervisor for retention. There is no guarantee of a permanent position following this internship.
