About the Position:

  • Position is located in the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs, Digital Media Division (DMD). You will be responsible for developing modern and engaging content for the Department of the Army's primary social media platforms.
  • The work is primarily sedentary; however, there is some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light objects (paper, books, etc).
  • The work involves everyday risks and discomforts typical of offices and meeting rooms. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

Duties

Help

  • As a Public Affairs Specialist in the Social Media division you will apply modern, industry techniques to create engaging social media content to tell the Army's story and communicate Army priorities on the Army's official Social Media Platforms.
  • Operate the Army's host of social media platforms, which currently include Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Flickr, Twitter, Pinterest, Snap Chat and the Army Live blog.
  • Provide or coordinate for social media coverage of major communication events and efforts using the Army's official social media platforms.
  • Research new and innovative tools, programs, systems, software, services and social media industry trends to maintainDigital Media Division (DMD) currency and relevance with social media efforts and strategies.
  • Assist DMD Social Media Manager with preparing social media training and educational materials to provide guidance and training to personnel.
  • Research, write, develop and present decision/information papers and briefings.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes presenting written ideas through variety of media such as news releases and publications; assisting in the development of modern social media programs; preparing engaging social media using graphic design, photo manipulation and video editing software; and reviewing social media platforms for accurate, policy-compliant, engaging and timely information.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as: Journalism or Communications.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
