Duties

Help
  • Serve as the Army Librarian to advise, guide and direct the Army Library Program through the Technical Business and Architecture Integration Directorate, the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCS), G-1.
  • Advise the DCS, G-1 the Army Staff, Army schools, hospitals, installations, and other Army organizations on the operations of libraries and on information services.
  • Ensure Army libraries submit an annual report to DCS, G-1 by reporting data on library funding, personnel, services, collections, technology, and facilities at the end of each fiscal year.
  • Establish policy and guidance to promote Army-wide cooperation, economy of operation, and effective automation systems and services.
  • Plan meetings as required and also serves as the Chair for the Army Library Steering Committee (ALSC) meetings.
  • Establishes work groups, formulates plans and executes complex studies to develop and communicate decisions and make recommendations to senior Army and DoD officials.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Librarian:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in Library Science or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: advise organizations on the operations of libraries and information's services; lead/Chair Library Steering Committee to determine agency policies; analyze new developments in selecting, acquiring, preserving, accessing, organizing, artifacts that are rare, one of a kind, or significant to organizations history and culture; report data on library funding, personnel, services, collections, technology, and facilities at the end of each fiscal year; preform technical needs of library operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-14).
