Summary

This positions is temporary, has a Not-to-Exceed date and will be filled for up to 6 months.  The appointment may also end early due to lack of work or funds.

This positions is located within the Safford National Forest.  The incumbent performs duties in support of the wildlife management program.

Duties

Help

Frequently, there is an integrated approach to address resource management issues, where the incumbent works as a team leader or as a member of a team to collaboratively achieve mutual goals and objectives. Individually, as a leader, or part of a team, performs established wildlife-related assignments.

Assignments involve constructing or completing habitat project work such as; watershed development, fencing, or clearing areas to establish food that is more desirable or cover habitat. For example, assesses habitat environments, requirements and inhabitants of wildlife; collects and accumulates data through a variety of techniques; examines information, and develops reports of results with suitable recommendations. Collects facts for development of wildlife management plans and coordination of wildlife needs for environmental analysis reports.

Performs complicated test following standard procedures for the full range of support work in the wildlife management program. Assignments involve collecting and analyzing; developing reports on the characteristics and quality of the samples of the field test; and developing accurate records and making presentation of findings. Field duties include sampling in streams and lakes for fish and invertebrates. Captures and identifies fish, and records data.

Qualifications

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.

GS-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the 04 level.

Specialized experience is defined as: Providing technical support in a wildlife management field environment by organizing wildlife-related data; collecting field data on wildlife habitat and vegetation, species condition, location, and status for habitat management and improvement plans; and maintaining records of findings or results of biological science tests and procedures. - OR

Successful completion of 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor’s degree with at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled. The successful completion of a full course of study of at least 12 months in a school for clinical laboratory technicians may be substituted for the 1 year of specialized experience required at the GS-05 level for positions involving microbiology and biochemistry technician work.- OR

A combination of education and experience listed above.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

You will be evaluated in accordance with the category rating procedure as defined in the USDA Demonstration Project Plan. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. Eligible applicants will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire. Applicants with veterans' preference are listed ahead of applicants who do not have veterans' preference within each category.
