This employee will serve in a developmental capacity as a Communications Specialist in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), National Science Foundation. ODI provides direct support and assistance to accomplish NSF's strategic goal of performing as a model agency. ODI's functions require a high volume and frequency of internal communications to staff to ensure proper awareness of ODI activities and to promote a transparent workplace with engaged employees. The ODI Communications Specialist will be primarily responsible for assisting higher graded personnel in creating, editing, facilitating, and managing communications for NSF's internal and external audiences, under the supervision of the Senior Advisor.

The incumbent performs preliminary research, collects data and information, and drafts original internal and external news stories for ODI based on input provided by higher graded personnel who are knowledgeable on current ODI activities, staff needs, and/or other circumstances. Assists in creating, obtaining, or coordinating with NSF design staff to obtain photographs, illustrations, video, sound clips, and/or animation to enhance internal communication items; serves as initial point of contact for Federal staff, contractors, and others for ODI materials. Works with directorate contacts to solicit and obtain information for inclusion in internal and external publications and websites. Conducts preliminary reviews of ODI publications and other communications products. Develops and maintains good working relationships with NSF staff, including general workforce and leadership, and collaborates to develop communications practices. Provides general assistance to ODI staff on the availability and utility of communications tools and aids in generating content to utilize these tools. Assists in coordinating with ODI and other NSF staff to plan, publicize, and execute events within ODI's purview, such as Special Emphasis Programs, World Cafés, ODI Open House, etc.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
