VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) is the second largest and most complex VA system in the nation, comprised of the Dallas VA Medical Center, Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, Fort Worth Outpatient Clinic and Tyler VA Primary Care Clinic. VANTHCS includes five Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) locations as well as an annex clinic located three miles from Dallas VAMC. A Fisher House is located on campus at Dallas VAMC. VANTHCS is an integrated health care system with approximately 5,000 employees and over 1,600 volunteers and clinical trainees. Through these four facilities and relationships with other agencies, VANTHCS offers health care services to approximately 500,000 veterans.
Dallas VA Medical Center is the corporate headquarters for VANTHCS and serves as the tertiary referral center. Through its partnership with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, it also has emerged as a major teaching and medical research center. The Research Program operates $8.7 million in grants. Primary care and multi-specialty outpatient clinics are also provided, making VANTHCS the first in bed days of care, the second in unique Veterans served, and the second in outpatient visits. Dallas provides a variety of cultural and educational opportunities, affordable housing and is easily accessible nationally and internationally.

DUTIES: Serves as Chief, Police Service for the Department of Veterans Affairs North Texas Health Care System, located in Dallas, TX. Duties include but not limited to:
· Has full responsibility for the enforcement of Federal criminal codes, as well as VA regulations.
· Protection of lives of patients, visitors and employees; the preservation of a peaceful environment requisite to the operation of medical treatment programs; and the protection of federally owned property from sabotage, fire, theft, and the accidental or willful damage or destruction.
· Implementing VHA policies regarding law enforcement at the Dallas VA Medical Center which is geographically located in an extremely high crime area exceeding 16 per 100 based on the FBI Crime Rate Index. The rate presents additional security and law enforcement problems not normally confronted at typical VA Medical Centers.
· Maintains a close and continuous contact with top level management and key professional personnel. Develops and implements procedures required to meet the unique needs of the Medical Center.
· Plans and executes law enforcement programs that entail the development and interpretation of new concepts, regulations, and standards.
· Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with local, State and Federal law enforcement agencies.
· Directs the ongoing professional development of Police Service at Dallas and Bonham VAMC's and serves as security advisor to VISN 17.

Physical Requirements:Physical Requirements:The candidate must be able to do the work of the position without harm to self or others. The duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. The following medical requirements apply to all applicants: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice without the use of hearing aid; and possess complete and functional limbs. Applicants and employees must possess emotional and mental stability and the medical examination will include a psychological assessment to verify this stability.
Applicants must also demonstrate that they are medically qualified to operate the appropriate law enforcement motor vehicle safely.
