Summary

This position is located in the Department of External Affairs and reports to the Director of External Affairs. The Department of External Affairs provides support in the areas of Visitor Services, Special Events and Communications. The incumbent will lead marketing, writing/editing and communications to include developing new messaging, engagement strategies and program concepts. The incumbent will lead the communication at all levels of change throughout Transformation over the next 10-15 years.

Help

  • Leads and oversees multi-disciplinary teams responsible and accountable for program management, performance goals, and budgeting as they apply to specific programs.
  • Oversees identity development, branding, organization, transformation and revitalization communications for both internal and external audiences.
  • Oversees all aspects of NASM Communications.
  • Oversees the Publication Program which works with museum curators and fellows to develop publishable works that represent NASM.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as managing the publicity, promotion and marketing for a museum, corporation or organization. This includes the development of media materials including press kits, fact sheets and press releases. Must also have experience with human resources management to include all of the following: interviewing, selecting, establishing performance plans, appraising employees’ performances, assigning work, reviewing work, identifying and providing training and counseling.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
