Help

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

  • Analyze and evaluate media reports, civic positions, and public statements to recommend the organization's position.
  • Assess media, congressional, and public attitudes toward the organization to incorporate the knowledge into outgoing messages, responses, and communications products.
  • Collaborate with other military and community public affairs officers, business community, local media, and governmental agencies to develop clear and concise information for release to the public.
  • Plan work and prepare performance plans covering work to be accomplished by junior employees.
  • Draft speeches, remarks, and briefing material for higher officials ensuring subject matter, tone, and manner of presentation are appropriate to the occasion and intended audience.
  • Develop formal and informal presentations to inform, motivate, or educate target audiences.

Generally, current Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. All qualifications and time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.

Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Occasional travel away from duty station may be required.

Positions that are supervisory/ managerial require that first time supervisors/managers complete a one-year trial/probationary period if not previously completed in a competitive or other excepted service position.

Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. The selectee will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

This position is subject to 24-hour recall.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour; which may including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: managing a public affairs program, with responsibility for planning, structuring, and delivering complex and diverse communications via various types of media platforms (e.g. website, social media, newscast, interviews, etc.) in order to carry out public affairs activities to promote programs, products, or services.
