• Performs collections management work in support of history or cultural museum exhibitions and collections moves.
• Manages and maintains the museum’s collections with a variety of conditions, values and handling needs.
• Performs research related to the subject/collection areas for inquiries, loans, augmentation of object cataloging, in support of exhibitions or other divisional project.
• Coordinates with Preservation Services for preparation of objects for temporary and permanent exhibits; assists in the development of exhibitions including involvement in all phases of design in coordination with Exhibits Department for design and production.
• Contributes to and maintains object records within Collections Information Systems and supplies object information to team members.
• Responds to collections inquiries by letter, telephone, email, or in person.

Qualifications

Selective Factor: Experience working in a historical or cultural museum managing collections and using collections information systems utilizing MIMSY XG.

In addition to meeting the selective factor above, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience.

Specialized Experience: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position, specialized experience is defined as providing collections management work for a collection in a historical museum or cultural setting including managing and preserving collections; using and maintaining collections information components of museum collections and museum exhibitions, creating and using Mimsy XG collection information system and database.

Or Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent degree related to the position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Your application will be evaluated first for the basic qualifications described above. The applications that meet the basic qualifications will be evaluated further against the following criteria:

• Skill in working within a historical or cultural museum managing collections and using collections information systems with an emphasis on MIMSY XG.
• Knowledge of collections management functions, standards, methodology, and practices for the physical care and preservation of collections.
• Skill in conducting historical research using published and unpublished sources and the material culture of American history.
• Knowledge of maintenance standards and practices in museum exhibitions, including safe handling, care, research and documentation of museum objects for exhibit preparation, installation and/or de-installation.
• Skill in using museum collection information systems and databases to support and maintain the collection’s information.
• Knowledge of the objects in museum collections to respond to requests for information and loans.

Better Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and satisfies most of the job related competencies above. Good Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements, but does not satisfy most of the job related competencies above to a substantive degree. This category rating process does not add veterans' preference points or apply the "rule of three", but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category. A selecting official may make selections from the highest quality category (Best Category) provided no preference eligible in that category is passed over to select a non-preference eligible in that category unless the requirements of 5 U.S.C. 3317(b) or 3318(b) are satisfied. Preference eligibles who meet minimum qualification requirements and who have a compensable service-connected disability of at least 10 percent must be listed in the highest quality category, except when the position being filled is scientific or professional at the GS-9 grade level or higher.
