This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will be responsible as a Information Security Specialist.
Mission Statement: The Joint Staff assists the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in accomplishing his responsibilities for: the unified strategic direction of the combatant forces; their operation under unified command; and for their integration into an efficient team of land, naval, and air forces. The Joint Staff is composed of approximately equal numbers of officers from the Army, Navy and Marine Corps, and Air Force. In practice, the Marines make up about 20 percent of the number allocated to the Navy.
This position is part of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joint Force Development Directorate. The incumbent conducts major analysis that support the Department of Defense's (DOD's) implementation of joint concepts. This includes collecting input from the combatant commands (CCMDs) and Services regarding capability shortfalls and working with the JS functional capability boards to produce a synthesized capability gap assessment.

As a INFORMATION SECURITY SPECIALIST at the GS-0080-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
- Develops and maintains an Information Security Strategic Plan, prioritizes security initiatives, maintains security performance measures in support of the Joint Staff.
- Implementing and administering the provision of Executive Order 13526, ISOO Directives, and DOD 5200.01M.
- Coordinates the development of plans, policies, and directives, as appropriate, with OSD, other defense agencies, and the Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO).
- Participates as a member of OSD's Classification Management Committee and the Training and Professional Development Committee.
- Participates with the Information Security Oversight Office in on-site security inspections and classified document reviews.
- Responsible for writing, editing and publishing the Joint Staffs Monthly Security Awareness Newsletter.
- Coordinates on security aspects of facility contracts and contractual education programs.
- Conducts security brief meetings to advise JS personnel of the adverse effects to national security that could result from unauthorized disclosure, and of their personal, moral and legal responsibility to protect classified information within their knowledge, possession, or control.
