- Plan, evaluate, and implement various communication strategies for regional environmental public awareness programs.
- Analyze the impact of program activities on the public and advise technical staff on possible alternative approaches.
- Serve as the agency spokesperson at regional public meetings and various formal/informal briefings and workshops; maintain open two-way communication between various stakeholders.

Qualifications
You do not need a degree to qualify for this position.
We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as developing strategies for communicating program activities to the public in a variety of methods (i.e. social media, community events, print).
Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of environmental regulations; 2) Skill in analyzing the impact of program activities on the public; 3) Skill in developing outreach strategies to disseminate information to the public; 4) Skill in developing relationships with media representatives, managers, and staff; 5) Ability to identify appropriate social media communication channels, techniques, and strategies to solicit public input; 6) Skill in written communication sufficient to develop press releases, news stories, and fact sheets; 7) Skill in oral communication sufficient to respond to questions, inquiries and criticism.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
