Summary

The incumbent is a TV & Multimedia Executive Producer at the VOA News Center. He/she is responsible for conceptualizing, launching and managing complex unique TV & multimedia projects that are fully original. He/she supervises and manages teams of producers, reporters, editors, artists and others to create and launching broadcast segments and packages and special projects for all other digital and social channels. Incumbent sets priorities for coverage and elements for pieces that are reported and produced under his/her supervision setting priorities and deadlines to allow projects to be of interest for an English speaking audience and made available for versioning and for publication, ensuring accurate, authoritative, comprehensive, innovative, engaging and balanced reports.

Help

Duties include, but are not limited to: Conceptualizie, manage, launch and execute multimedia projects with original content for all platforms, TV & Multimedia. Guides reporters, producers, videographers and designers in the reporting and production of special projects for digital, social and broadcast that are of interest to VOA's international audience. Work on long-term assignments that are more in-depth and may evolve into a series of reports, works closely with News Center management, and leadership of other divisions. Keeps abreast of major news and information related to the project in order to lead and support coverage. Ensures that special project reports are up to date and timely when issued, and reflect the comprehensive or unique story assigned. Oversees content created by staff, while maintaining flexibility and working quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure. Ensures that topics selected and stories developed are engaging, and supports reporters developing unique angles. Works with reporter team to develop story, edits for substance, accuracy and balance as well as clear journalistic style. Makes decisions on the appropriate treatment, length and placement of emphasis of individual reporting. Checks material for visual elements and flow of story. Determines and assigns necessary revisions. Oversees budget and assigns overtime; monitors travel expenses. Evaluates the work of her/his team, conducts all phases of performance appraisals for news writers, correspondents and producers, and conducts consultations regarding evaluations as required and appropriate when assigned.

This position has been designated supervisory requiring that the selectee on an initial appointment as a supervisor or manager serve a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13), which is directly related to this line of work.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of such experience includes; Experience in TV, multimedia digital storytelling and production; Experience in implementing the principles and practices of journalistic news gathering, writing and skill in applying these to the editing of incoming news in text, audio and video formats; Demonstrated experience managing projects and teams in a major multimedia news gathering organization and in a international and multilingual setting; Leading in-depth news reports, programming, and projects catered for a foreign audience; Experience in leading a team of journalists, artists, producers, social editors, vjs and other personnel in a major newsroom to create high value, impactful, engaging, completely unique and original content under tight and competing deadlines; Skill in identifying significant events and relating coverage of those events to larger issues.
