This position is located in the Office of Congressional Affairs, National Endowment for the Humanities. The incumbent provides assistance to the Office of Congressional Affairs. These services may be of a politically sensitive nature requiring discretion and judgment.
NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 1 year) with the possibility to extend up to four years maximum. Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Gathers materials for and conducts research related to special projects assigned by the Director of Congressional Affairs.
Develop and collaborate on strategic plans for special events and initiatives designed to promote the agency to members of Congress, the White House, and important leaders in the community.
Assists in Congressional liaison matters, including attending hearings and other meetings, transmitting documents to Congress and the White House, and conducting legislative research.
Assists in the development of analytical information related to the humanities in general and to the programs and activities of the Endowment in particular.
Drafts correspondence for the Director of Congressional Affairs as well as composing correspondence under own signature to the office's many customers.
Assists in the development of briefing materials for the Director of Congressional Affairs in preparation for meetings, conferences, speaking engagements, and Congressional Grant Notifications.
Works with Congress Plus software to communicate with Congressional offices.
Provides administrative assistance to the office such as making travel arrangements, filling out reimbursement forms, answering phone calls, managing calendars, and responding to e-mails.
Works with Granicus software to send out mass e-mails to external government organizations.

At the GS-7 level Qualified candidates must possess:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level or equivalent experience.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example: Specialized experience includes experience assisting in the development of long term strategies, developing external platforms for communicating various initiatives with a variety of audiences, coordinating administrative functions, attending hearings and/or meetings and summarizing the outcome for management, and conducting legislative research.
Education
