Duties

Help

Serves as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for a TMDE Support Center (TSC) with responsibility for the TSC's radiation safety program. The RSO is responsible for the safety of all personnel who visit or work in areas of potential radiation exposure, and has authority to halt work when the potential for radiological hazard exists. Serves as a specialist in the measurement of ionizing and short wavelength non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation. The purpose is to provide measurement traceability for Army Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) to the International System of Units (SI), and certify conformance to specifications.

  • Successful completion of the US Army Radiological Safety Course and approval by the USATA Radiation Control Committee.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work in the fields of astronomy, physics, geophysics, chemistry, hydrology, health physics, engineering, electronics, geology, oceanography, or metallurgy. Experience as a laboratory mechanic or in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work was performed in close association with physical scientists or other technical personnel and provided intensive knowledge of appropriate scientific principles, methods, techniques, and precedents. Work includes measuring ionizing and short wave length non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Successfully completed a masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
