About the Position:
This position is located at Fort Hamilton in Southern New York City, Bay Ridge Brooklyn, at the base of the world famous Verrazano Narrows Bridge, which is a viable cultural area. It is 20 minutes to mid-town Manhattan. Since Spring 1998, the Fort Hamilton Military Community has been home to the North Atlantic Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; New York City Recruiting Battalion; and New York Military Entrance Processing Station. Commuter buses and trains are readily accessible from this location.

Duties

Help

  • Perform a broad range of law enforcement, investigation, crime prevention, traffic control, and community policing.
  • Handle volatile situations such as terrorists attacks, hostage situations, armed robbery, and other crimes in progress.
  • Secure and process crime scenes, conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, obtain witness statements and, if necessary, make apprehensions.
  • Perform fixed post operations located within the interior of the installation or at nearby gates.
  • Control access to sensitive/restricted areas where there is potential for breach of security, public safety, or public health.
  • Regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic to prevent accidents and to ease congestion and parking problems.

Other Requirements:

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete and/or graduate from state or local accredited police academy or Installation Police Training Certification Program within the first 12 months of assignment to the Provost Marshal Office. Extensions may be granted based on availability of schools. The incumbent will also be required to attend re-certification training every 60 months based on availability of schools and/or funding.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to meet the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to maintain proficiency, and qualify, in handgun use. Testing is conducting annually.
  • This position requires the incumbent to undergo, and pass, a complete physical and mental examination (financial, emotional, and mental stability) on a pre-employment and annual basis thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to undergo and pass an initial physical agility fitness test and annually thereafter.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License specific to the state in which the incumbent resides or the official duty station of the incumbent.
  • This position may have a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
