Serves as a coral and benthic marine resource technical specialist on navigation and coastal civil works projects in the Coastal Section, Environmental Branch, Planning Division.
Collects, analyzes, and evaluates data needed to prepare reports concerning water resources development and controversial navigation and coastal planning studies.
Prepares scopes of work and cost estimates, as well as necessary evaluation factors for professional contracts.
Coordinates work and studies with other interested Federal, state, and local government agencies, and cooperates with private concerned conservation groups.
Attends meetings to assure environmental concerns are considered and provides input and provides input as required.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Biologist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) evaluating existing benthic or other marine natural resources to determine existing conditions and consequences of complex water resource projects such as maintaining or deepening shallow and deep draft navigational harbors and placing large quantities of sand on beaches to reduce or avoid infrastructure impacts due to storms; (2) writing, coordinating and evaluating complex environmental reports containing sound scientific information which has been scrutinized by the scientific community to depict or document environmental effects of water resource projects in compliance with environmental laws and regulations; (3) studying/working with marine or coastal species including those listed under the Endangered Species Act and the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act.; and (4) development or review of scientifically sound monitoring and adaptive management plans for complex water resource projects relating to shallow and deep draft navigational harbors and nourishment of beaches to reduce or avoid infrastructure impacts due to storms.
