Summary

The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is a consolidated health care system that includes VA Medical Centers in Montgomery and Tuskegee Alabama as well as Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in Dothan Alabama, Ft. Rucker Alabama, Monroeville, Alabama and Columbus Georgia. The primary duty station for these  positions are at the Montgomery Campus (2), Tuskegee (2), MVAC (1).

Duties

Help

This position is responsible for providing transportation to beneficiaries and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities and other places for examination, treatment or care. The incumbent will independently manage the Central Alabama Veterans Heath Care System Beneficiary Travel Program. These positions are in Montgomery and Tuskegee, AL.  The duties include but are not limited to the following:

·        Responsible for determining method of payment for authorized and unauthorized ambulance claims submitted for consideration.

·        Prepares reports for cab service to determine annual and local mobility usage.

·        Arranges all modes of transportation via air ambulance, commercial air, taxi, ambulance, bus and/or independent transports.

·        Maintains communications with receiving facilities regarding beneficiaries return travel arrangements.

·        Reviews requests for reimbursement of travel costs assuring compliance with regulations and procedures, completeness, accuracy, internal consistency, and agreement with basic authorization.

·        Corresponds with physician, traveler, and vendor to determine the most dependable and economical mode of transportation.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Physical Requirements: This position requires walking to several locations away from office to maintain contact with the Agent Cashier, File Room, Medical Information, and other section of the Business Office as needed.  It requires contact attention to minor detail and long periods of standing, sitting, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting moderately heavy equipment and materials.

Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 level.

 

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Ability to communicate with staff, Veterans, family members, Federal, and Civilian agencies; Manage patient accounts to include deposits withdrawals and reconciling balance sheets; Dispatching and coordinating travel for Veterans with different agencies to include other services within the VAMC, civilian hospitals, and public transportation; Review documents and reports to ensure proper data entry is accurate and complete; Retrieve and provide daily and monthly reports.

There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
