    Summary

    The Office of Audit (OA) is responsible for conducting and supervising audits relating to the Department of Labor’s programs and operations; recommending policies for activities designed to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of the Department’s programs and operations; and preventing and detecting fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement in these programs and operations.

    Responsibilities

    Major duties (at the GS-5 level):

    1. As a trainee, the incumbent performs a variety of tasks designed to provide experience in assisting in the conduct of audits. Uses electronic spreadsheet, word processing, and database applications to assist in performing the duties of the position.

    2. Studies audit guides and program manuals, laws, rules, and regulations to understand the audit subjects being evaluated.

    3. Conducts research of specific laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures, contracts, grant documents as requested.

    4. Prepares audit work papers, using prescribed formats, to document information necessary to support audit work.

    5. Examines financial and other documents to determine if transactions were properly supported in accordance with pertinent laws or regulations.
