Summary

The selectee for this position will serve as a Geographer (GIS) in the GeoReadiness Center, Asset Utilization Branch, Asset Management Business Line, of DEPARTMENT OF THENAVY.

Salary range shown is not all inclusive: salary will vary by geographic location.

THIS IS AN EXPEDITED HIRING AUTHORITY ANNOUNCEMENT. The Duncan Hunter National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) FY 2009 provides that the Secretary of Defense can designate acquisition positions as shortage positions and recruit and appoint highly qualified persons to these positions. Help

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

  • Read and interpret maps, charts, photographs and statistical tabulations.
  • Present and illustrate geographic information in narrative and graphic forms.
  • Produce comprehensive facility, environmental and utility products and services using georeference and digitized as-builts, floorplans, blueprints, imagery, etc.
  • Convert AutoCAD to GIS and GIS to AutoCAD using spatial data transformations for Navy stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain symbology comprehensive map products such as Regional Base Maps (RBMs), Regional Installation Maps, utility mapbooks by commodity, Installation Data Catalogs, disaster assessment maps and jurisdictional (fire, police) mapbooks.

Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) and requires additional education, training and experience. This position has been identified as a Career Field - FACILITIES ENGINEERING - at Level II. If you possess DAWIA Certification, please indicate your Certification Level and Career Field information in your resume. This position may require occasional travel from normal duty station. Must be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.

Selectee will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
A Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.OR:

A Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing duties such as: 1) Interpreting geographical maps, charts, and photographs to identify discrepancies; 2) Producing comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS) products using geographical data; and 3) Collecting geographical data using Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment.
