Duties

Help

  • This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity.
  • At the full performance, GS-11, the incumbent will: Perform the assignments designed to expand and foster knowledge, skill and experience in surveying techniques, methods, and policies leading to more complex work commensurate with the next higher grade level.
  • Assist and/or participate in geodetic surveys, preparations of scopes of work, development of provisions of contract specifications to include the level of surveying accuracy, cartographic mapping requirements, and scheduling of work.
  • Prepare estimates for contracts involving photogrammetric mapping which may include analytical aerial triangulation analysis, orthophoto contour map specifications, different types of digitized mapping, and various scales of aerial photography.
  • Research data at local, state, and federal agencies to identify the legal boundaries and property lines.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes methods, techniques and principles and performing Land Surveying, Geodetic surveying, Structural Deformation Surveying, Topographic Surveying and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD); using Trimble R7 and R8 GPS Units, Trimble TSC 2 and 3 Data Collectors; also using Carlson Survey Software with Autodesk Civil3d & Trimble Business Center software; work with Leica series total stations and data collectors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as major study in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
