Help

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

  • Perform pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with the layout, fire hazards, and location of fixed fire protection systems.
  • Initiate established medical protocols in providing basic life support.
  • Perform noninvasive emergency procedures.
  • Perform hazard and risk assessment and conducts a complete incident analysis.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduled drug test appointment. Incumbents of drug testing designated positions will be subject to random testing. Drug test results will be provided to the employing activity/command.

This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. The incumbent must provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems. The incumbent must maintain certain levels of medical, security, performance, conduct and overall fitness that make them suitable for assignment.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Selectee is required to work a 72-hour week on a 24-hour on/24 hour off basis.

Selectee may be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT).

GS-04: Selectee must be certified in Hazardous Materials Operations and Firefighter I.

GS-05: Selectee must be certified in Hazardous Materials Operations and Firefighter II.

Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Selectee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.

This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.

This position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

Qualifications

GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: perform firefighting duties of rescue operations in structural firefighting operations including emergency medical treatment to include but not limited to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

OR

Successfully completed a 2-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science.

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: perform firefighting duties of structural firefighting, hazardous material emergencies, and operating pumper and aerial firefighting vehicles.

OR

Successfully completed a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or another related field of study.

This is a firefighter position. This position is a Primary Firefighter position and is covered under Special Firefighter Retirement. Title 5 U.S.C. 3307 authorizes the head of an agency to establish a maximum entry age for the original appointment of individuals to the position of primary firefighter. For initial appointments, applicants cannot have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. An applicant reentering into a Primary Firefighter position may have the maximum entry age adjusted based on prior covered Firefighter federal service. Applicants who are entitled to veteran's preference may be eligible for a waiver to the maximum entry age requirement. Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
