About the Position:
Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Duties

Help

  • Perform electronic and mechanical maintenance and repairing of combat vehicle systems.
  • Isolate faults between inter-related electrical, electronic, electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components.
  • Utilize common and specialized hand tools to perform maintenance and repairs of electrical weapon systems.
  • Apply standard electrical principles in identifying and determining corrective repairs on electronic equipment.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, drawings, automated data, work orders, and wiring diagrams.
  • Perform functional tests of all components in the turret including electrical, mechanical, pneudraulic, electro-mechanical, electro-optics, and electronic fire control systems.
  • Determine repair requirements, from oral instructions, or supporting documentation , and applying knowledge of electronic theory to assure most effective methods, techniques, and tools are utilized.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic systems for leaks, defective lines, and other information.
  • Make adjustments and assure the erecting and launching devices are properly installed and working together with the turret, and base, as a complete subsystem.
  • Determine feasibility of making needed repairs and makes recommendations to supporting organizations.

  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.

  • This is a Career Program (CP-17) position.
Conditions of Employment:

Pre-employment job physical may be required.
Obtain and maintain Personnel Security Investigation (NACI).
Shift work may or may not be required based on mission requirement.
May require CONUS and OCONUS travel (TDY).
Pre-deployment physical & annual thereafter (including all required immunizations) are required if and when deployed.
May require use of Government Travel Card (GTC).
May require a Government Passport for OCONUS travel.
Soldering Certification may be required within 1 Year of placement in position.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Weapon Systems Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform the common duties of a Weapon Systems Weapon including performing routine and repetitive tasks operating assigned combat vehicle systems; troubleshooting techniques, conducting various tests to check calibration of instruments, special tools, fixtures, collimating equipment, and other hand tools and equipment; overhaul, repair, rebuild, make modifications to wiring, installation and diagnose electrical, electric, electro-hydraulic, and electro-mechanical assemblies and subassemblies of combat vehicles.

  • Work requires frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts heavier items with assistance. Employee is expected to climb onto equipment, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel and stand for extended periods of time. Works, as required, in cramped or awkward positions. Occasionally work in high places may be required.
  • Work is usually performed in well-lighted, heated and ventilated areas. Exposed to dirt, grease, dust, exhaust fumes, and high noise levels. Subject to the possibility of injury such as cuts, bruises, burns, electrical shock, and falls from equipment. Work may be performed outside in inclement weather. Required to wear safety equipment/clothing as prescribed for the area in which work is performed.
