Help

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

- Manages the Integrated Library system to include overseeing the operation of the circulation desk. updating serial records for electronic data for relevance and accuracy.
- Ensures accessibility for electronic users through various hardware and software protocols.
- Administers assignment of duties to library technicians in support of providing library services.
- Provides training on database searching ,library services and resources to staff.

In accordance with BUMED INST 6220.9B, this position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

Completion of a master's degree in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree.

Possession of the requirements must be verifiable via SUBMITTING A COPY of the complete transcripts with your application.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Administering professional knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and objectives of librarianship, and an in-depth knowledge of library automation and integrated library systems in support of library functions such as library management, circulation, serials maintenance and cataloging of materials.
  • Providing specialized research related to, however not limited in, computerized reference to medicine and biology topics to support patient care, education and research.
  • Utilizing knowledge of multiple library automation and computer-based integrated library systems such as Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC) tags, Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), HTML or other coding principles, classification systems of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the Library of Congress (LC), the Dewey Decimal System and other World Wide Web formats in providing library services.
  • Providing individual and group training programs and instruction related to the use of various electronic database searches and research techniques for hospital staff or end users utilizing library services.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:
Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Successful completion of a master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree (e.g., LL.B. or J.D.), directly related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. (Possession of the requirements must be verifiable via SUBMITTING A COPY of the complete transcripts with your application.)

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
