About the Position:

Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York's picturesque North country, one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

This is a TERM position Not-to-Exceed (NTE) 13 months. This position may be extended up to a maximum of 6 years based on Agency need. Term appointments do not confer permanent status in the Federal service. Nor does a term position automatically confer eligibility to be converted non-competitively to permanent positions. Under certain specific conditions, and pursuant to legal authority and regulatory requirements, this position may be non-competitively converted career-conditional or career appointment.

This is an OBLIGATED position. An obligated position is one in which an employee has statutory reemployment rights based on having served an overseas tour. When a position is obligated to an employee it means that he/she has an entitlement to that position. The selected employee will be required to sign an agreement acknowledging that he/she is aware of the obligation and accepts the fact that he/she may be displaced under reduction in force procedures at a later time.

Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Logistics Management Specialist for the Army Field Support Battalion (AFSBn), with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command (ASC) on Fort Drum you will:

  • share overall supervisory an management responsibility for all battalion activities, operations and personnel
  • provide logistics support to several Army Commands (ACOMs)
  • direct, research and evaluate the readiness posture of ACOMs
  • supervise battalion activities, operations and personnel.
  • monitor contractors work and performance
  • utilize a number of Logistics Assistance Representative (LARs) assigned by Major Subordinate Commands (MSCs) to the area.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience such as: using qualitative and quantitative methods for analyzing and measuring effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of logistics systems and life cycle management of equipment and materiel and providing logistics support and technical expertise to resolve high priority logistics, supply, distribution, and service problems; researching and identifying issues with logistics support operations; coordinating and/or developing logistics plans and policies; and providing oversight to assigned personnel in areas such as supervision of work products and monitoring personnel action . This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
