This position is part if the This position is located in the Hotline Division, Deputy Inspector General for Administrative Investigations (DIG-AI), Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense (OIG DoD). The mission of the Hotline is to receive information pertaining to suspected threats to homeland security, leaks of classified information and oversee inquiries into allegations of fraud, waste, and mismanagement affecting DOD programs and operations at the local, national, and international levels. Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Investigator (Hotline) GS-1810-14, your typical work assignment may include the following:

  • Supervises teams or independently conducts sensitive, complex investigations into allegations involving DOD officials and special assignments, as directed.
  • Processes Classified hotline complaints relating to intelligence matters using systems that disseminate and store SCI information.
  • Supervises a team conducting preliminary inquiries to determine whether issues have merit, have already been investigated by another organization, and if more formal inquiry is appropriate.
  • Ensures complaint information is properly coded and entered into the hotline database.
  • Reviews hotline reports and findings of investigations to ensure progress is being made in accordance with established guidelines. Recommends further action, if necessary.
  • Conducts oversight reviews of inquiries conducted by Inspectors General of the Military Departments and Defense Agencies.
  • As necessary, briefs DoD OIG management, other senior DoD officials, Members of Congress and their staff on the status and results of investigations, oversight reviews, and special projects

Other Position Requirements

  • Position has been designated as Special Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Incumbent is required to complete a Financial Disclosure Statement annually and to inform supervisor or any conflict of interest whenever such conflict has been identified.
  • The incumbent of this position is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with the DoD OIG. If you are currently an employee of DoD and in a Drug Testing Designated (DTD) position, you are not required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen. However you will be required to submit to random drug testing while employed while employed with DoD OIG.
  • If you have not previously successfully completed a probationary period with the federal government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.
  • The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.

Qualifications

You may qualify for the GS-14 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualifications requirements:

Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as experience in planning and conducting complex investigations, to include: interviewing witnesses, gathering and analyzing relevant evidence, and developing office strategic plans. Applicants must have experience in conducting or performing oversight of administrative investigations into allegations of misconduct by DOD officials. Applicants must also have experience prioritizing investigative workloads. This includes all aspects of fieldwork and drafting written reports of investigation that contain thorough analyses and adhere to the Quality Standards for Investigations as established by the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
