This position is located in the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG), Office of the Deputy Inspector General for Administrative Investigations (DIG-AI.) As an Investigative Support Specialist you will be responsible for providing investigative support services for investigations of senior official and whistleblower reprisal investigations conducted across DoD.

Duties

Help

As an Investigative Support Specialist GS-1801-12, your typical work assignment may include the following under supervision:

  • Performs life cycle investigative support management of complaints including intake, analysis, electronic and hard copy records management, status tracking and reporting, monitoring corrective action and case closeout. Reviews incoming complaints and establishes electronic and/or hard copy records, enters data into case tracking system and routes complaint appropriately. Performs quality reviews of case files at case closure examining thoroughness, completeness, organization, documentation and data to ensure compliance with DoD OIG and other relevant standards.
  • Maintains investigative records, ensuring security, retention and disposal consistent with DoD OIG and National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) policy and regulation.
  • Processes Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for investigative records in accordance with Agency guidelines and timeframes.
  • Monitors incoming and outgoing Congressional correspondence.

Other Position Requirements
Position has been designated as Noncritical Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
The incumbent of this position is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with the DoD OIG.
If you have not previously successfully completed a probationary period with the federal government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.
The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.

Qualifications

You may qualify for the GS-12 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualifications requirements:

Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-11 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: experience performing i n an investigative support role for a high-level professional or government program. Experience is demonstrated in work that involves applying investigation and compliance principles, concepts, and methodologies; independently identify significant sources of information to detect illegal activity and document issues or probable cause; research, analyze, interpret, and evaluate data and information to make appropriate recommendations; and prepare reports and technical information.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
