Duties

Help

  • Researches applicable laws, directives, and other regulatory material to gain knowledge of issue areas.
  • Develops and maintains broad knowledge and understanding of current issues in assigned areas of responsibility, and develops and maintains extensive technical knowledge of followup issues within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Prepares inquiry memoranda to ascertain status and adequacy of management's actions to implement agreed-upon corrective actions for recommendations.
  • Evaluates the adequacy of corrective actions on recommendations and works to resolve discrepancies.
  • Provides input for the DoD OIG Semiannual Report to Congress, ensuring current followup status is reflected.
  • Prepares and presents information and analyses on DoD followup issues to senior management within the OIG, the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Government Accountability Office (GAO), and other DoD agencies.
  • Ensures followup actions consider all levels and stages of programs.
  • Correlates report recommendations and results to identify fundamental management issues across departmental and functional lines.
  • Manages a diverse workload involving multiple issues, policies, and programs.
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with key DoD and OIG officials and staff.

Other Position Requirements

Position has been designated as Noncritical Sensitive.

Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

The incumbent of this position is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with the DoD OIG.

The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as utilizing professional knowledge of the theory, concepts, principles, and practices of analysis to ensure quality work when performing the diverse audit follow-up and mediation work for which the OIG is responsible.

Candidates will be further evaluated on the level and quality of their experience and possession of the following relevant competencies in order to determine the level of your qualifications. These competencies include:

  • Knowledge of theories, concepts, principles and techniques of analysis
  • Skill in utilizing established standards and practices to conduct follow-up, coordination, and reporting on status of recommendations and agreed-upon corrective actions
  • Skill in planning and coordination to manage a workload of a substantial size that that covers a wide range of issues
  • Skill in identifying management actions required to implement agreed-upon corrective actions to recommendations
  • Skill in analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and assessing and tracking implementation of corrective actions
  • Skill in initiating, developing, maintaining, and using interpersonal relationships to interact effectively with internal and external customers
  • Skill in oral communication
  • Skill in written communication
