Duties

Help

At the GS-11 level:

  • Researches applicable laws, directives, and other regulatory material to gain audit knowledge.
  • Utilizes fact-finding techniques to gather audit data.
  • Performs audit work within established guidelines.
  • Assists in producing comprehensive reports of audit data collected.
  • Utilizes audit data to evaluate results and assists in recommending solutions.
  • Assists in developing drafts and final segments of audit reports.
  • Maintains security and accountability of classified information.
At the GS-12 level:
  • Researches applicable laws, directives, and other regulatory material to gain audit knowledge.
  • Develops and contributes to audit guides.
  • Independently performs audit work within established guidelines.
  • Produces comprehensive reports of audit data collected.
  • Utilizes audit data to evaluate results and recommend solutions.
  • Develops drafts and final segments of audit reports.
  • Maintains security and accountability of classified information.

Other Position Requirements

Position has been designated as Noncritical Sensitive.

The incumbent of this position is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with the DoD OIG.

The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.

Qualifications

You must meet the minimum qualification requirements as stated in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/Standards/group-stds/gs-prof.asp.

Basic Requirement: A degree in accounting or in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing courses. (The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.)
OR
A qualifying combination of education and experience: 4 years of accounting experience or a combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing courses (the 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law) or a certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor.

Specialized Experience for GS-11: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-09 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: researching applicable laws, directives, and other regulatory material to provide assistance in conducting audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), and providing assistance in collecting audit data and drafting audit reports within established guidelines.

Specialized experience for GS-12: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-11 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: researching applicable laws, directives, and other regulatory material to conduct audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), draft audit reports within established guidelines, and provide recommendations to correct deficiencies founded within audit reports.

Candidates will be further evaluated on the level and quality of their experience and possession of the following relevant competencies in order to determine the level of your qualifications. These competencies include:
