Summary

The selectee for this position will serve as a Public Affairs Officer (PAO) in the Corporate Communication Office (AD-7.5) at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV. As a Public Affairs Officer the selectee will provide dedicated mass communications support to one or more accounts within NAWCAD or NAWCAD-serviced organizations. Travel around the base and to other sites (e.g. international sites, other command activities, etc.) is required to fulfill the duties of this position.

Help

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

  • Provide dedicated mass communications support to one or more accounts, which may include various Program Executive Officer's (PEO) staffs and/or NAWCAD organizations.
  • Function as a liaison with the Visual Information department (VI) for multimedia support; and may infrequently serve as continuity backup for other PAOs.
  • Plan, execute, and update internal and external communications plans with national, international, political and budgetary impacts.
  • Prepare speeches and presentations for senior command leaders and advises on delivery.
  • Respond and coordinate trade shows, media requests for information, interviews and site visits.
  • Create and edit news releases, fact sheets, talking points and other material to stimulate internal and external interest in command accomplishments and enhance the understanding of the command, its workforce, mission and contribution to national defense.

Requirements:

Generally, current Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Qualifications

GS-13
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Demonstrated experience working in a public affairs or mass communication discipline requiring sensitivity to legislative and budget issues; 2) Utilizing advanced news editing skills and abilities to accomplish commercial news organization goals and objectives; 3) Applying job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities to create and edit news releases, fact sheets, talking points and other material; 4) Ensuring timely, accurate, and credible responses to media and public inquiries for information and interviews.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Present ideas in writing using various mass communication formats, including news and feature releases, blogs, photo captions, and social media posts with the proper use of Associated Press style guides; 2) Develop high quality mass communication plans and related products concerning a wide range of subjects; 3) Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, practices, techniques and analytical methods used in mass communication and interpersonal relations; 4) Execute mass communication efforts which comply with Federal Government policies and practices; 5) Train others and engaging with the media effectively.
