Summary

About the Position:
Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York's picturesque North Country, one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Help

This position is located in the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), Fort Drum, New York. In this position you will:

  • Receive shipping orders for a variety of commodities.
  • Classify freight to be shipped and compute the cost of shipment for all modes of transportation.
  • Assign shipments to carriers.
  • Research and review documentation to detect hazardous material being shipped and prepare documentation for the hazardous shipment.
  • Perform pre-audit of freight bills before sending to finance for payment.
  • Prepare Transportation Discrepancy Reports for incoming shipments noting shortages of items specified.
  • Locate lost items by preparing Requests for Information (RFIs) to backtrack the movement of the shipment and maintain a suspense of RFIs.

  • Position requires obtaining and maintaining, for duration of employment, Ammo-62 certification to ship hazardous materials within 60 days of employment.
  • Position requires obtaining and maintaining a government driver's license.
  • Position will require working in extreme weather conditions, i.e. snow, rain, heat, cold.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: receiving shipping requests and assembling requests by destinations; determining mode of shipment; determining type of carrier equipment for eligible cargo; conducting pre-audit of shipping documents to ensure proper payment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position the Federal service (GS-05).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

Education

Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone. No substitution of education for experience is permitted.
