About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York's picturesque North Country, one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Help

This position is located in the Directorate of Public Works.  As a Tools and Parts Attendant (Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO)) you will receive, store and issue a variety of tools and materials used by shop personnel. You will maintain an inventory of expendable items such as petroleum, oils, and lubricant (POL) products, paints, and safety equipment. Report overages, shortages, or damaged items to the supervisor. Store items in appropriate storage areas ensuring proper security measures are followed. Conduct periodic inventories. Issue tools and equipment to other directorate personnel. Maintain records of equipment issues and returns. Inspect items upon return for damage or maintenance needs. You will operate motor vehicles weighing 8000 to 10000 pounds on the installation to receive and transport supplies and equipment. Dispatch vehicles to directorate employees. Maintain radio contact with shop supervisors and equipment operators to pass on supervisors' instructions or keep supervisors informed of developments or situations requiring their attention. Make determinations regarding appropriate equipment and personnel to dispatch when supervisors are unavailable (emergencies). You will Issue keys and maintain logs required to ensure appropriate key control procedures are followed. Receive phone calls and visitors to the shop, furnishes information regarding procedures, etc. or refers questions to proper personnel.

Qualifications

Screen Out Element: To qualify for this position, your resume must indicate your overall knowledge, skills and ability and/training to perform the duties of a Tools & Parts Attendant (MVO), WG-6904-05 as stated in the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. You application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work is performed on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping and bending. Work requires frequent lifting of up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Indoor work is performed in a shop setting that is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, but sometimes dirty and dusty. Work performed outside occurs in varied weather conditions. Employee is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises. Safety equipment is available as necessary.
