The area of consideration for this vacancy announcement is for U.S. Citizens and Non-Citizens within the Local Commuting Area of Fort Drum, NY. This includes the counties of: St. Lawrence, Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis. (Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) Preference eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.)

This position is located with community Recreation Division.

Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division (LI), is located in northern New York's picturesque North Country, one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, offering many outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles south of the Canadian border, 85 miles north of Syracuse, and 350 miles north of New York City. It is located with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Help

  • Performs lifeguarding duties and limited management functions.
  • Ensures the safe operation of the pool, it's filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry and performs water test.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guest in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility.
  • Rescues swimmers and administers first aid as required. Ensures that safety rules are followed.
  • Responsible for teaching aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21.

Conditions of Employment:

3. Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
4. May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
5. Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.
6. The following certificates must be obtained within 6 months of appointment: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associate Lifeguard Instructor Certification; OR American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard Water Safety Instructor Certification.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess all of the following:

  • American Red Cross "Lifeguard" certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Certification
  • American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer" (CPR-Pro) certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associates (CPR)Certification.
  • American Red Cross "Automated External Defibrillator" (AED) certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associates AED certification.
