Serve as program technical advisor developing methods and selecting techniques to conduct methodological research to improve sample surveys or experimental designs.
Design, develop, and apply mathematical techniques to statistical research related to methodology used in research, and evaluate the results.
Provide advice and assistance for statistical projects or studies that are new or significant departures from the relationships established in previous problems, studies, or investigations, causing outcomes that are usually original in nature.
Communicate information to various audiences.
Write statistical and analytic reports from major studies and continuing projects; and disseminates results of research projects in a wide range of venues including manuscripts, and special reports.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications Requirements for Mathematical Statistician:
Degree: that includes 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics; OR Combination of education and experience that includes at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 semester hours in mathematics and 6 semester hours in statistics, as show in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement above much have included at least four of the following: differential calculus, integral calculus, and advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite.
Minimum Qualifications Requirement for Mathematical Statistician:
GS-12: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service that has prepared me with the particular knowledge and skills to successfully perform the Specialized Experience of the position to include, applying the principles, methods and techniques of sample survey design, mathematical statistics, and survey research.
GS-13: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that has prepared me with the particular knowledge and skills to successfully perform the duties of the position to include, providing consultation and assistance in applying the principles, methods and techniques of sample survey design, mathematical statistics, and survey research; collecting, analyzing and interpreting complex scientific data.
