This position is located in Vilseck, Germany. The town of Vilseck is situated on the river Vils ('eck' in German means corner and so Vilseck is on a corner or edge of the Vils), a tributary of the Naab river. The Grafenwoehr Training Area complex (GTA) is a live-fire multi-national shooting range and borders the town of Vilseck on the north. The town is home to Germany's first tower museum. The ancient Bavarian village of Vilseck is geographically completely separate from the nearby large American military base which is commonly referred to by the same name. Duties

Help

· Serves as a calibration specialist in the parameters of electrical, electronic, microwave, nucleonic, optical/laser, physical and dimensional measurements applicable to the secondary transfer level calibration, certification and evaluation of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). The purpose is to provide measurement traceability through an Army Area Calibration Laboratory, the Army Primary Standards Laboratory, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology to the International System of Units, and provide information on TMDE accuracy and uncertainty. Performs repairs incidental to calibration as required.

· Selects, applies, and interprets electronic principles and practices to collect, reduce, display, and analyze calibration data for a wide variety of complex general and special purpose TMDE. Mechanics at this level calibrate all types of electronic, electrical, and electromechanical measurement systems used in industrial, ground, airborne, and experimental applications.

·   Prepares calibration reports for customer use, providing specific information such as assigned values, corrections factors, and measurement uncertainty for instruments being calibrated.

·  Interfaces with user, manufacturer, and US Army TMDE Activity engineers as necessary to clarify questionable areas concerning the use and accuracy of instruments or nonstandard TMDE.

·  Assists and advises users in the application of, and calibration requirements for TMDE in support of their mission.

· Implements, adapts, modifies and occasionally develops technical procedures required by changing user or equipment requirements.

· Identifies and documents errors in existing procedures and provides information used for the development of technical documents used for TMDE calibration and certification.

· Serves, as the workload dictates, as a specialist in physical/dimensional and ionizing radiation calibration.

  • Emergency Essential Statement: This position is considered essential to support the Army's mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increasing tension or mobilization. It is considered emergency essential because (1) no qualified and immediate replacement exist and (2) having the position vacant would (a) impair the effective operation of essential military support systems or (b) adversely impact the combat or peacekeeping mission of deployed forces. Failure of the incumbent to remain in this position may result in separation for the efficiency of the Federal Service (Chapter 75 Title 5, USC; FPM Ch. 752). In addition, DA civilians who occupy emergency essential positions overseas must sign a statement of understanding including that as a relieved by proper authority. E-E employees may be required to undergo nuclear-biological and chemical training and to participate in readiness test, mobilization, alerts, and field training exercises. Employee must pass a medical examination and receive required immunizations for the overseas/deployed location.
  • Satisfactory passing of pre-employment requirement is required.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

SCREEN OUT ELEMENT: ABILITY TO PERFORM THE WORK OF A PRECISION MEASUREMENT EQUIPMENT CALIBRATOR WITHOUT NORMAL SUPERVISION

Experience and training that furnished the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position consistent with accepted practices of the trade.

Physical Effort: The work may be required long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage, high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.

  • On this overseas accompanied tour, medical and DoDDS special education services may not be available in the immediate location of this position.
  • In the overseas areas, access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only. Medical care may be provided by host nation providers. The availability and level of care at host nation medical facilities will vary by location. Movement overseas may require you to initiate a change in your health benefits plan to ensure coverage.
  • Pay retention may be offered to successful applicants for positions at overseas locations. For this provision to apply to employees already overseas, the selected individual would have to require a permanent change of station move and would have to be selected as a result of a recruitment effort that had been extended outside of the overseas command involved.
