These positions are being filled under Direct-Hire Authority for the Department of Defense for Post-Secondary Students and Recent Graduates. The Secretary of the Air Force has delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense to directly appoint qualified post-secondary students and recent graduates directly into competitive service positions; these positions may be professional or administrative occupations and are located Air Force-Wide. Positions may be filled as permanent or term with a full-time or part-time work schedule. Pay will vary by geographic location.

*** The term "Current post-secondary student" mean a person who is currently enrolled in, and in good academic standing at a full-time program at an institution of higher education; and is make satisfactory progress toward receipt of a baccalaureate or graduate degree; and has completed at least one year of the program.

Post-secondary students may be noncompetitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment within 120 days of successful completion of their academic program requirements.

*** The term "recent graduate" means a person who was awarded a degree by an institution of higher education not more than two years before the date of the appointment of such person, except that in the case of a person who has completed a period of obligated service in a uniform service of more than four years.

Duties

Help

  • Provide technical support for MAJCOM conference room audiovisual (AV) presentations.
  • Serves as senior IV specialist with overall responsibility for ensuring the MAJCOM conference room and video teleconference (VTC) (facilities) room receive necessary day-to-day technical administrative support.
  • Serves as senior VI specialist for operations of VI equipment and troubleshooting technical problems.
  • Assists in the preparation of equipment budgets.
  • Trains lower graded employees.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Undergraduate and Graduate Education
: Major study- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the postilion. Some postilions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science or technical equipment.

Advance training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.

EXPERIENCE:
General Experience (for GS-05 positions): Experience that demonstrated the skills and creativity needed to use the tools or equipment associated with the work. Because talent and creative ability are vital to successful work performance, samples of work or other suitable evidence of technical competence may be required. Unpaid experience that is pertinent should be created based upon its relevance to the work of the particular position to be filled. To be qualifying, the work must hve involved visual communication of information or the application of the principles of artistic design.

Specialized Experience (for position above GS-05): Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided thw ork done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planing the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communication information through visual means.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree OR Three years, of general experience, one year of which was equivalent to at least GS-04. General experience includes analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; plan and organize work, and communicate effectively orally and in writing.

GS-07: One full year of gradate level education OR superior academic achievement OR One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-05. Specialized experience includes knowledge of management policies, practices and procedures applicable to an AV and VTC facility.

GS-09: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education lading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-07. Specialized experience includes knowledge of software (Microsoft Power Point, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Media Player) used to present large screen display images and VTC services.

GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree of LL.M., if related OR One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-09. Specialized experience includes knowledge of methods, techniques, characteristics, user level maintenance and use of state-of-the-art electronic audiovisual imaging/projection systems, lighting and sound control systems e.g. AMX Control systems including touch screen and button panel controllers, in-line audio/video matrix switching units, Audio and Video Player Units. Bose audio systems, Vortex audio mixers, Lectronsonic sound mixer/amplifier. Shure audio systems. Fender portable audio systems. Polycom. Tandberg and Picturetel video conference and multi point control units.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of methods, techniques, characteristics, user level maintenance and use of state of the art electronic audiovisual imaging projection systems, lighting and sound control systems, e.g. AMX Control systems including touch screen and button panel controllers in line audio/video matrix switching units. Audio and Video Player Units, Bose audio systems. Vortex audio mixer, Lectronsonic sound mixer amplifier. Shure audio systems. Fender portable audio systems. Polycom. Tandberg and Picturetel videoconference amd multipoint control units.
2. Knowledg of software (Microsoft Power Point, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and MEdia Plaayer) used to present large screen display images and VTC services.
3. Ability to resolve complex and unusual user level technical problems.
4. Knowledge og and ability to apply proper protocol procedures.
5. Knowledge of management polices, practices and procedures applicable to an AV and VTC equipment.
6. Knowledge of and ability to provide input to budget and planning operations for AV and VTC equipment.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

IF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: You MUST provide transcripts to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
