Duties

Help

As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Collaborate with the chief, Corporate Communications in researching, planning, implementing and evaluating DLA Troop Support's public affairs programs.
  • Research, coordinate, write, edit, and disseminate grammatically correct, factually accurate, readable written materials such as articles, news releases, scripts, fact sheets, speeches and other materials for the DLA Troop Support workforce and other key audiences.
  • Maintain electronic media program, including public web site and social media efforts.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with print, broadcast and new media representatives; disseminate information and answer inquiries about organizational operations and activities.
  • Assist public affairs specialists with developing story ideas for use across all mediums.
    Lead efforts of teams in assigned projects, staying on time and task.
  • Formulate and maintain community relations events and activities to meet the needs of DLA Troop Support.
  • Serves as editor for other writers.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Public Affairs Specialist your resume and supporting documentation must support:

One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position.  To be creditable, specialized experience must be at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector.  Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:

  • Researches, plans, implements and evaluates public affairs programs.
  • Devises, writes and edits public affairs products like articles, news releases, speeches, and copy for electronic media.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with print, broadcast and new media outlets.
  • Experience with web and social media programs and tools.
  • Leads team efforts on projects.
  • Coordinates community relations events.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills and abilities) in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of doctrinal public affairs strategies, practices, principles, policies, methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of web and new media techniques, tools and procedures.
  • Skill in public affairs writing and oral presentation that clearly and effectively communicate the organization's programs and activities to target audiences.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with full spectrum of media.
  • Skill in applying analytical techniques to gather, analyze and evaluate complex data to prepare public affairs plans.
  • Ability to interface with high-level organizational officials, media and other key audiences.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize assigned tasks.
  • Ability to formulate and conduct community relations activities and events.
