Summary

The Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians was established under the American Indian Trust Fund Management Reform Act of 1994 and is responsible to the Secretary of the Interior for implementation of all aspects and responsibilities assigned under the Act. The Office of Special Trustee (OST) was created to improve the accountability and management of Indian funds held in trust by the federal government. As trustee, the Department of the Interior has the primary fiduciary responsibility to manage both Tribal trust funds and Individual Indian Monies (IIM) accounts.


If selected for this position, you will serve as an Archives Technician in the Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians –Program Management (PM), Office of Trust Records (OTR), Division of Records Management Operations, Branch of Records Management Research in Lenexa, KS.

The incumbent of this position contributes to the mission of the OTR by providing records research and document production services.

Please note: Work is generally performed in an office setting; underground, which is adequately lighted and climate controlled.

Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework and the selectee will not be permitted to telework.

Salary Information: GS-5 $32,995 - $42,899 per annum. GS-6 $36,780 - $47,817 per annum. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.

This is a permanent, full-time, appointment. The position has a full performance level of GS-6.

Help

The major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Processing of requests for copies of documents received from a variety of sources. This processing includes analyzing and evaluating the assigned research requests to ensure the information furnished is complete (i.e. proper authorizing signatures, account numbers furnished, documents requested are completely identified, etc.)
  2. Copies or scans, then sends copies of the requested documents to the requestor using the appropriate cover correspondence.
  3. Regularly provides guidance and gives advice and instruction to lower graded Archives Technicians when technical assistance is needed.
  4. Responsible for resolving discrepancies and advising higher authorities of significant problems.
  5. Assists with other assignments as requested, which can include, but not be limited to updating the daily request tracking database, filing documents, assisting with incoming telephone calls, receiving visitors, and maintaining security and control of records and documents.

Qualifications

GS-5 Qualifications Requirements

Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: using simple or self-indexing filing systems in a records storage facility or warehouse; entering data into databases; organizing and filing documents.

OR

Education: Four full academic years (120 semester hours) beyond high school at an accredited institution;

OR

Combination: A combination of education and specialized experience that totals 100% of the requirement for the GS-5 grade level.

NOTE: If you are substituting education for specialized experience, you must submit your transcripts with your application to verify the education.

GS-6 Qualifications Requirements

Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: processing research requests; querying databases for requested documents; making copies or scanning documents from files and ensuring information furnished is correct.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
