About the Position:

Temporary Promotion/Reassignment may be made or extended up to a maximum of five years. Competitive temporary Promotion/Reassignment may be made permanent without further competition. The gaining and loosing activities must agree to the temporary promotion/reassignment and decide in advance which activity will assume the responsibility for placement of the employee when the temporary promotion/reassignment ends.

Duties

Help

  • Directs the Public Affairs Program of the Jacksonville District with responsibility for devising and carrying out a fully developed public information program o inform the general public of the District's programs.
  • Utilizes all news media and communications tools to disseminate information on a District, regional, or national basis, as appropriate.
  • Drafts speeches, remarks, articles and briefing material for the District Commander, Deputy District Commanders, senior staff, and others, before public groups and briefing sessions.
  • Prepare information brochures and booklets on Civil Works projects and other Corps functions for distribution to visitors and others seeking information.
  • Publishes District newsletter.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in planning, executing and evaluating local, regional and/or national media relation programs and strategies; writing articles or speeches for organization Commander/director; writing, coordinating and placing articles, news releases or speeches for external and internal audiences; overseeing visual information preparation and execution; and conducting regional or national media relations for one or more major organization programs or mission areas. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
