Summary

The OIG is a statutorily created independent entity whose mission is to deter and detect waste, fraud, abuse and misconduct in DOJ programs and personnel, and to promote economy and efficiency in those programs. The Inspector General (IG) is appointed by the President subject to Senate confirmation, reports to the Attorney General and Congress. The OIG investigates alleged violations of criminal and civil laws by DOJ employees and also audits and inspects DOJ programs.

The Investigations Division's special agents investigate allegations of bribery, fraud, abuse, and violation of civil rights and other laws, policies and procedures that govern DOJ employees, contractors and grantees. Working with prosecutors, the special agents develop cases for criminal prosecution and for civil or administrative action. The Division's Special Agents have statutory law enforcement to carry firearms, make arrests, serve subpoena's and seek and execute arrest and search warrants. The Investigations Division is considering interns with strong organizational, office software, analytical, and writing skills to provide office and investigative support.

This excepted service position is being filled under the provisions of the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities. The program allows students to be exposed to the work of the Government through Federal internships while pursuing their degree. The internship also provides Federal managers a ready source of student employees and also provides the student with work experience directly related to their curriculum studies or career goals.

Upon successful completion of the internship program, you may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a full-time permanent position.
