The Investigations Division is charged with ensuring the integrity of the top law enforcement agency in the country. The Division's Special Agents investigate allegations of bribery, fraud, abuse, and violations of civil rights and other laws, policies and procedures that govern DOJ employees, contractors and grantees. Working with prosecutors, the Special Agents develop cases for criminal prosecution and for civil or administrative action. The Division's Special Agents have statutory law enforcement to carry firearms, make arrests, serve subpoenas and seek and execute arrest and search warrants. Help

If you are selected as a Criminal Investigator, your responsibilities would include, but would not be limited to:

- Analyzing initial allegations and recommending required investigative resources and collateral support.
- Investigating allegations of crime, crime scenes, and misconduct.
- Planning and conducting surveillances or undercover work.
- Apprehending and arresting persons violating U.S. laws and conducting search and seizure incident to the arrest or when appropriate by warrant.
- Preparing reports and presenting findings orally and in writing to managers, prosecutors, and other high-level officials.
- Testifying as a government witness before Grand Juries and in court regarding criminal cases.
- Testifying at administrative hearings in non-criminal cases.

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • You must be registered for the Selective Service, if applicable.
  • You must successfully pass and are subject to random drug screenings.
  • Must maintain firearm proficiency and successfully pass periodic tests.
  • Must pass and maintain medical qualifications.
  • Must maintain a state issued driver's license.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade level (or equivalent).

You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-1811-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level obtained in the Federal or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as conducting multi-jurisdictional and multi-defendant investigations relating to bribery, fraud, theft, abuse, violations of civil rights, conflicts of interest, and misconduct investigations.

3). Skill in performing search warrants, arrest, handling informants, and working/organizing undercover operations.

4). Ability to conduct physical and electronic surveillance utilizing a variety of audio, video, and photographic equipment to record evidence.

5). Knowledge of criminal laws, Federal rules of procedures, rules and evidence, investigative principles, techniques, precedent court decision, laws and decisions relating to searches, seizures and arrests.
